Voteris ("we", "us") lets you browse public voting records from the European Parliament and the US Congress and record your own personal opinions on people and votes. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Data we collect

  • Account data — if you register, we store your email address and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text). If you use a passkey instead, we store the public-key credential your device generates; we never see or store your private key or biometric data.
  • Session data — a pseudonymous session identifier stored in a cookie, plus a salted, one-way hash of your IP address used only for abuse and rate-limit protection. We do not store your raw IP address.
  • Your opinions — the "approve"/"disapprove" opinions you set on people or votes, linked to your account so we can show them back to you.
  • Analytics — we use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not sell or share data — it only collects aggregate, anonymized usage data. See our Cookie Policy for details.

How we use your data

To create and secure your account, prevent abuse (e.g. rate-limiting login attempts), deliver the opinion-tracking feature, send you transactional emails (verification, password reset) via our email provider, and understand aggregate site usage.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We use third-party infrastructure providers strictly to operate the service: Cloudflare (hosting), Neon (database hosting), Resend (transactional email delivery), and Umami (analytics). Each acts under its own data processing terms and may process data outside your country.

Retention

We keep account and opinion data for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, contact us using the details below.

Your rights

If you're in the EU/EEA or another jurisdiction with similar protections, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us below and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

Voteris is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
